Cyst III
Challenge: Here is the pathology of an unfortunate patient who died at age 40 from a subarachnoid hemorrhage. There was a family history of such sudden deaths. What's the diagnosis?
This is Adult Polycystic Kidney Disease (APKD)...autosomal dominant transmission..the person probably dies due to rupture of a Berry aneurysm, often associated with APKD.
This is autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, associated with cerebral aneurysms that can rupture and result in subarachnoid and intracerebral hemorrhages. There may also be asymptomatic cysts in the liver and pancreas.
