Yes, this is shingles or herpes zoster. It is a painful eruption of grouped vesicles in a dermatomal distribution due to activation of latent varicella-zoster virus within ganglia and dorsal nerve roots. Reactivation can be triggered by immunosuppression, malignancy, trauma, or irradiation. Pain begins one to two days prior to the eruption. Long term complications include post-herpetic neuralgia.
