This is perfusion-weighed imaging of a MRI shortly after a stroke. The red area represents infarcted brain tissue, and the green area represents penumbral “area at risk.” This is hypoperfused tissue that is not yet infarcted, and could be salvaged if blood flow were restored. The difference between the red and green represents the “perfusion mismatch.”

  2. Hello Craig,

I'm a Colombian med student and I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for having this blog. I just found it and I've already been on it for a good while testing my knowledge and learning new things. Also, thanks in particular for the detailed explanations; they're the perfect complement. Have a great week!
