A 30 year old woman presents with an unprovoked pulmonary embolism. In searching for the cause, a contrast MRI is performed, shown above.
May-Thurner syndrome involves compression of the left common iliac vein between the overlying right common iliac artery and the underlying vertebral body and is associated with unprovoked left iliofemoral DVT or chronic venous insufficiency.
