Refresher IV

This disease represents the rule of 2's: it occurs in 2% of the population, the male:female prevalence is 2:1; it occurs within 2 feet of the ileocecal valve, and it can be two inches in length.

Challenge: What is the diagnosis?

  1. this is a Meckel's diverticulum, a congenital embryological malformation... I'd suggest a small bowel resection as treatment.

  2. Meckel's diverticulum. I believe it's a "true" diverticulum along with the appendix and zenker's?

    Meckel’s diverticulum is the most common congenital abnormality of the GI tract, resulting from incomplete obliteration of the vitelline duct leading to a true diverticulum in the small intestine.
