Challenge: What kind of highly unstable fracture is shown above?

This is a Jefferson (burst) fracture (the title of the case refers to the Hamilton soundtrack song about Thomas Jefferson). This fracture of C1 occurs when a vertical compression force causes fractures of the anterior and posterior arches. The lateral radiograph shows increased predental space between C1 and the odontoid. The open-mouth or odontoid view shows a step-off of the lateral massees which are normally aligned.
