Sorry today's case posted late. Today's case is somewhat memorization-heavy, but happens to be very practical to review.


Challenge: Name the antibiotics that can treat this much feared aerobic bug that haunts hot tubs and contact lens solutions.

Hot tubs can spread this bacteria if they are not clean. It is important to use antibacterial agents while cleaning your tub to avoid it.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa can be treated by antipseudomonal penicillins (ticarcillin, piperacillin) with or without a beta lactamase inhibitor (clavulanate, tazobactam), third generation cephalosporin ceftazidime, fourth generation cephalosporin cefepime, monobactam aztreonam, carbapenems (imipenem, meropenem), fluoroquinolones (levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin), aminoglycosides (gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin), and colistin.
